Emotionally Focused Therapy

Feeling disconnected from your relationship is painful. Emotionally Focused Therapy is based on over 30 years of research and is grounded in attachment theory. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy we will work to help you see the patterns in your relationship and help you both feel understood and seen.

Emotionally Focused Therapy(EFT) Helps

Communication

In working to understand your relationship patterns, you will learn how to better listen and express needs & and emotions in a way that you both can hear each other.

Conflict Resolution

When you understand the patterns of your relationship you can "slow down" the cycle of arguments. In slowing down the cycle, you can better hear and understand each other.

I have advanced training in "High Escalation" work with EFT.  Through EFT we will learn the raw spots that can cause reactivity and help slow down the pain cycle.

Stengthen Connection

EFT focuses on fostering emotional intimacy and building a strong friendship between partners. Couples learn to express love, appreciation, and fondness for each other regularly.

What to Expect:

First Session: Great couples therapy starts with a great assessment.  The first session is history gathering about your relationship.  Getting a comprehensive history of your relationship is vital to help you untangle what got you here.

Between the First and Second Session: Couples are sent the Gottman Relationship Checkup. This gives a comprehensive breakdown of areas of strength and areas of growth in the relationship. It helps us get a picture of the patterns in your relationship.

Second Session: I will meet with each partner individually to get individual history and their perspective of the relationship.

Third Session:  We are back together and we will all go over your results from the Gottman Relationship Checkup. Together goals for treatment will also be discussed and all couples get a  copy of their treatment plan. I am very transparent in my process and you are the expert in your relationship, I just help create a roadmap and serve as a guide to help you get back to where you want to be.
